P320 X-carry Legion - There don't seem to be many real world reviews on the P320 X-Carry Legion, mostly just the usual press releases that came out a few months ago and a bunch of silly "unboxing" vids, I thought. I want to start it here. If you are an X-Carry Legion owner, feel free to donate.
First I had to get clean and eat crow – when this gun first came out I really didn't get it. It struck me as a "carry" gun that doesn't really seem like it was designed to be carried. The specs make it too heavy and it has a tall adjustable rear sight that seems better suited for range. On the surface it seemed like it was really built like a competition gun, but why not just get the full size of the X-5 and the benefit of the long barrel?
P320 X-carry Legion
So I was at LGS yesterday, traded things in and had a healthy credit to use, and started looking through displays. Not much caught my eye, but out of curiosity I asked to handle X-Carry Legion. I previously had a first generation X-5 (pre-Legion) and an X-Compact, and I still have an X-Full RXP, so the X-Grip is nothing new to me and I really like it. But what really surprised me as soon as I took that weight. I've gotten used to shooting a lot of relatively lightweight polymer guns lately, and this one really feels like I just picked up a steel gun. But it doesn't feel too heavy - it just feels really nice and big. It felt like every other X-frame I've set up, and like something new and different at the same time. I put it back on the counter and wandered around a bit, but nothing interested me like X-Carry Legion did.
Review Of The Sig Sauer Legion P320 X Five
It costs $899 and when you look at everything you get in this gun, plus the 3 mags and Henning Group baseplates, this is not an expensive gun. With the store credit I've had, along with the fact that I already have a bunch of P320 mags and a holster that will work, it's a no-brainer.
I threw on the Springer Precision extended mag release I already had and pulled the Romeo 1 Pro out of my other P320 and went to the range. The optics require only minimal adjustment of the matrix. I put 150 rounds of 115gr Winchester through it with no problem. Recoil is significantly reduced by the weight of the frame, as expected. The closest thing I can compare it to is shooting a steel P229 - very controllable, and while I never really let it die in this first range session, I can see how it can be run as fast as you want to take it.
The trigger is noticeably better than the standard out-of-the-box P320 trigger. Recording is clean and short with dry pauses and minimal reset trips. The mushy creepiness I've felt in the standard P320 trigger is not there. Average trigger weight is 2lbs 12oz. I realize that some may feel that it is too easy to "carry" a gun, but I would say that it is largely a matter of personal preference.
This tungsten-infused X-frame is very impressive, and if you're into traditional metal guns but are curious to try a polymer striker, this might be the way for you - it's a unique beast. which is not exactly like handling a plastic gun. While I don't choose the X-Carry Legion as my CCW choice, I can definitely see it as an open/duty pistol. It is not light, but it is not so heavy that it becomes a task to lighten it with a good holster/belt combination. And of course, the beauty of the P320 system is that you can always have a spare non-tungsten grip module when you plan to carry it for an extended period of time, and do a module change in seconds.
Sig Sauer P320 X Carry
So far I'm very impressed with X-Carry Legion, although I'm afraid it won't really 'take off' because too many people have seen it and jumped to the same conclusion I did. I have a very different opinion now, and I think if you want a racing ripper gun that isn't so special that it loses its practicality as a carry/defense option, then this gun could be really hard to beat. Can excel in both equally.
I'd also like to hear other people's experiences and I'll keep posting updates as I spend more time with this gun.
Thanks for the review - I've been thinking of one of these as a basis for some muffler fun. I held one at LGS the other day and was pleased with the crisp short pull from the flat trigger setup. The weight feels good and the wide magwell opening makes it feel like it will be great for competition and range. The opening of the magwell will likely make it difficult for the CCW to prevent printing...
SurplusM17 said: Opening the magwell seems to make it hard for the CCW to avoid printing... Click to expand... Yes, I'll remove the magwell if it's going to be a dedicated CCW. But it is only held in place with an Allen bolt and can be removed in seconds. Or, as I said above, you can just have another normal grip module for the CCW. It's literally a 30 second swap.

My question is does the P320 X Carry Legion also have a bull run like the longer X5 Legion.
JeffJaje said: My question is does the P320 X Carry Legion also have a long bull run like the X5 Legion. Click to expand... No - it has a standard P320 4.6" barrel. Personally, I'm thrilled as I don't think any more weight needs to be added to this gun. If this is truly a dedicated. comp gun, the would make more sense, but then again, that's what the X-5 Legion is for.
• I have read some reviews that it is surprisingly efficient for its size with high load capacity.
I wanted to try some high pressure loads as I don't think standard pressure 115 gr FMJs will do much to demonstrate the effectiveness of this little comp. So I took a box of 124 gr +P NATO out of the gunhouse and tried them:
Sig Sauer P320 X Carry 9mm 3.9 In. Barrel Optic Ready 17 Rds Fde
The shots landed a little higher, which could be because I hit the red dot last week with a standard pressure load of 115gr and/or the +P rounds were just a higher POI. After all, I am satisfied with the group, for my 2nd time pistol shooting, it is still normal.
So is Mini Comp effective? I didn't shoot X-Carry Legion with 124 +P loads before without comp to be able to make a true comparison, but I can say that these rounds felt exceptionally light for +P and almost no muzzle rise to speak of. of. It could be that the TXG frame is doing a good job of cushioning the recoil, or that the Mini Comp is doing its job, but I have a feeling it's a combination of both.
All in all, I am seriously impressed with this gun. It's a real pleasure to shoot, and a very 'solid' feel. I shot my VP9 OR just before this, and while I really like the VP9, it doesn't really compare. This X-Carry Legion is probably the best assault pistol I've ever shot.
Thanks for writing it. I was not aware of Comp Micro. I'll have to see that. I've only fired my X-Carry Legion twice so far, but I'm pretty good compared to other pistols I've owned. I still want to like my hammer fired pistols better, but I do just as well or better with this Legion and my Canik TP9SFX.
Compensator For P320 X Carry Legion
We must be related from another mother... I have X-Carry Legion and VP9 OR. Have been thinking of getting the Griffin Micro Comp for both as they are a relatively good deal. I have a Herrington Arms comp on mine paired with a full size TXG grip module and I love it. Consider a micro comp for use in a carry configuration. Is this an index? My first thought is how does it work if the throttle is pushed out in all directions if it is not indexed?
I have the X-Five Legion with optics and TLR-1 and I find the X-Carry with comp and no optics, no shooting light too flat than the X-Five. Follow the pictures much easier.
