P320 With Light - SIG Sauer has continued to expand the capabilities of their popular P320 platform over the years and this has resulted in a gun that has something for just about everyone. The SIG Sauer XCarry Legion pistol combines a compact frame, a threaded barrel and a tungsten grip. What does the package offer and who is the product intended for? With so many different features added to the gun, I had to find out for myself and today I will share my thoughts and feelings about the SIG XCarry Legion pistol as I have experienced them over the past two months.
Like our editor Pete, I've been dying to try and get my hands on one of SIG's tungsten-infused frames ever since I first heard about them. The idea of adding things to the frame of your gun to reduce recoil is nothing new and in the competition scene I find myself in it you will often be surprised at the lengths people go to to make their gun heavier to access all the benefits Sir Newton made us aware of. What's really cool about the XCarry Legion, though, is that it combines a compact frame with its tungsten grip to give you a simple carry gun that's also easy to shoot—I wouldn't call it a carry gun unless you use a . Alpha double belt as your everyday belt. So what's the skin in XCarry Legion so far? Here are the specifications:
P320 With Light
The gun comes in a hard plastic case with a gun lock, a small bottle of lube, your LEGION club registration papers and three magazines. This is another interesting part of the setup to me, as if you are going to market this product to competitive shooters, as I think it is marketed towards, most people know you don't go very far with only three 17 round magazines. Personally, if I were marketing specifically to competition shooters who still want to be able to unload their rifles for practice or fun, just include 5 magazines, you'll buy me extra money for them at the sale price and that's in one day.
Crimson Trace Laserguard For Sig Sauer P320, M17, M18, Red Laser
I tested the XCarry Legion for several months and probably put somewhere close to 600-700 rounds through it in combination with both suppressed and non-suppressed guns. The P320 platform in the past has always felt like a decent gun to shoot, but I never experienced that with the XCarry Group. The tungsten coated frame makes even the most seasoned ammo in my possession child's play and it makes the XCarry group a joy to shoot. I chose to replace the standard adjustable sight module on my RMR Type 2 and had no problems moving the optic. Although I will say that the looks that come with the XCarry Legion are nice and include minor upgrade adjustments to the back.
While at an event in Southeast Texas, I was able to further test the XCarry Legion with some carry and shooting and while it turned out that my optic wouldn't cut perfectly after several optic changes, I could still make a profit. To get a better sense of the gun's performance without tasting - it's just better. I don't particularly like the stock P320 and thankfully the flat trigger makes the XCarry Legion more fun to shoot, but I still want a much cleaner break and reset.
If the tungsten-infused frame isn't too heavy for you, you'll also have the option of placing a lighter on the gun's dust cap to weigh it down a bit. To help with this I tried two different Crimson Trace options, both of which were sent to our event in Texas for testing and evaluation. I think the Crimson Trace CMR-204 Laser / Light Combo small light gun and the CMR-208.
When shooting at night, the CMR-208 was shown to be able to reach further distances through total darkness, while the CMR-204 laser/light combo seemed better for close-up work - low light of 100 lumens. Most of them work outside. up to about 25 yards before it electrocuted but the green laser proved to be very good and even somewhat useful in daylight. Both modules survive flat-scale transport and I think this would probably be a great addition to the XCarry team if you're looking for a cheap light or light/laser combo.
Weapon Light For P320 Subcompact
One of my biggest complaints about the P320 platform is its seeming inability to work reliably when pressed. I have had many experiences with the P320 and M17 platforms where they would not reliably engage the sniper even when used with increased recoil sources. However, this problem seems to have disappeared almost entirely with XCarry Legion. Since the gun comes standard with a threaded barrel, I wanted to try and see if SIG actually worked out the bugs. As a side note, this would be a good time to mention that I wish SIG would go the route of Beretta providing the barrel with an O-ring to keep the bolts secure. I've almost lost my chain guard a few times in the field and I have to check it regularly to make sure it's safe and secure.
My first shots with a suppressed XCarry Legion were disappointing. Uses some 150 grain Federal Syntech and TiOn Inc. Grenadier suppressor, I can't get the gun to rotate reliably. When I moved down to the slightly lighter and slightly faster Federal Syntech 147-grain, I had the same result. I finally got a break with this combination of parts and found that the Winchester White Box Subsonics worked very well and rotated reliably with the shotgun combination. Before anyone asks, the TiOn Inc Grenadier suppressor is one of the lightest in the industry at just 10.3 ounces.
My other option that produced much better results was a Dead Air Odessa 9 Modular Suppressor. With factory standard 115 grain ammo, the Odessa 9 ran with the XCarry Legion flawlessly (until the booster broke). Overall, I think it's safe to say that as long as you're using the right ammo and the right scope, SIG's XCarry Legion is a good choice for handgun shooting. According to Pete, he had no problems when using his MODX-9, which is almost a full two ounces lighter than both the TiOn Inc Grenadier and the Odessa 9.
So who is the gun for? On the one hand, the name "XCarry" tells me that SIG wants this gun to be a heavy-action carry gun. However, the tungsten-infused frame and accompanying barrel tell me that SIG is instead trying to give users a production-grade gun that can still be suppressed if needed. Either way, I think the SIG XCarry Legion is fun to shoot for a full body gun and could be a great place to start building a race or competition gun. You might say that at this point you're better off just buying a steel cased gun and running it with a hammer fired DA/SA 226 or 229, but I think at this point I'm more used to hammer firing first. . Going back to a DA/SA pistol like my M9A3 would just be too much trouble for me, at least in terms of competition.

If you have a P320 or P250 then you should get a LIMA5. Since both the P320 and P250 have fire control units as a listed weapon component, the grip modules are interchangeable. You can get a LIMA5 to upgrade your P320 or P250 to have a visible laser built right into the receiver module.
The LIMA5 aka LIMA320 is a compact pistol module that is "not compatible with the .45ACP or the manual safety version of the P320," according to SIG Sauer. I have an M17 and it has a manual safety. I looked at the company's M17 grip module and noticed that the LIMA5 grip module could easily accommodate the same holes for an ambidextrous manual safety. I mocked such holes with a silver sharpie.
I used a drill and a cordless drill whose tip is similar to the manufacturer's M17 safety slot. I then drilled a hole in the side of the LIMA5 module near the bottom of the holes. I hit one group at a time. I then used a set of side cutters to cut the rest of the plastic over the drilled holes to complete the manual safety holes.
